Founded in 1977, the Center Against Domestic Violence is one of the largest nonprofit providers of violence prevention services in New York City. It offers a variety of shelter, advocacy, education, information, coalition and support services for women and children. It operates various shelters that provide counseling, case management, legal, housing search, day care, recreational, educational and after-school services. The Center Against Domestic Violence administers the Relationship Abuse Prevention Program, which provides placement services for social workers in intermediate and high schools. The organization also offers several services that enhance the infrastructure and linkages of community-based organizations through its domestic violence empowerment initiative.
