The food here is fantastic. If you like Uzbek or Russian food, go here. I ordered the:
Cheese cigars: this was excellent, would recommend. It comes with a sauce
Navruz Salad: I loved this, definitely could be a meal in itself but best if shared
Herring: really good and I loved the potatoes that came with it. The herring does have bones.
Mixed Spreads Platter: this is similar to standard middle eastern spreads, but it also has kimchi and pickled vegetables, which was a nice touch.
The place is BYOB and there are 2 liquor stores nearby. The service was amazing, the staff was sweet and accommodating.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Paul M.New York, NY171Feb 9, 2024
We made a reservation for 10 people and gave a $200 credit card deposit to guarantee a table is held for us.
Unfortunately, one of the couples came down with Covid and we were all exposed since we saw them 2 days prior.
I called the restaurant before 24 hrs to our reservation telling them our situation.
The management of the restaurant refused to credit my credit card acct and offered us "store credit ".
This was unacceptable to me, since most of us live 2 hrs away in another state.
By doing the right thing and not coming in to spread the virus, we are being punished.
I don't care if their food is good.
This is to advise anyone not to give them credit card for deposit, because if GD forbid something happens, they will keep telling you their policies which are not listed on their web under " refunds and cancellations "
They also told me that they record all their phone conversations, which is illegal, unless you are warned beforehand.
This is a typical " Russian/Brighton" business practices, which makes many not to want to go there.
I just want people to be aware who they are dealing with.
In continuation, the owner of the restaurant just called me to threaten me for leaving this review.
He told me that I was a liar and that he doesn't have to give me my money back as per their policy. Which as I have mentioned before is not displayed on their website when you click on it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 24516132768Jan 7, 2024
Bounding and astounding, weaving and achieving, this restaurant dishes and swishes with flying colors in every aspect of the dining game.
They serve bread that stays hot the entire meal, never hardens, plentiful, and served with olive oil, it is imperative you order this even if it is not free. It is worth getting. The fresh juice they have will allow you to digest everything easier.
I really enjoyed the Lagman soup, a regional soup with lamb, noodles, and vegetables. It is the perfect soup for a cold winters day. Thankfully they serve this in two sizes. I would eat this in a boot. That is how good it is.
The Uzbek Plov, a pilaf plate of lamb, vegetables, and rice, is alright. There is plenty of food in it, but the lamb gets tough and dries out. It needs a nice sauce to work through it, but otherwise it falls short. It is a manageable portion to eat.
No dinner is complete without eating some cherry verniki. These are dumplings in a cherry sauce and you get a generous amount. Incredibly silky and has plenty of flavor. You could order these as an entree, but I would order these as a dessert.
I really enjoyed the classic rock music playing as it created a solid contrast of old world food and new world angst that this food solidly provides.
When you leave, the whole experience will have you winning and grinning all the way home.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Uncle J J.Brooklyn, NY01434Apr 13, 2024
I gave 2 stars because of shish kabobs, otherwise - will be 0 or 1. I had a small party (15 people) and I had quite a discussion with their manager about food quantity, because their prices. It suggest that I should get a couple of each appetizers on each side of the table and it should be enough. Honestly, it was not enough when I came, so I had to order additional dishes. Here are few of their plates prices: basic appetizers ranged between $14 and $18, fried potatoes with mushrooms (small plate) - $18 (I had order extra!), smoke fish platter (very upset!) - $30, samsa -$6, one skewer of shish kebob - $10-$11 (you should get 3-4 per person!). Oh, and their supposed to be specialty - plov (or pilaf) - even I (non-Uzbek) can cook it 10 times better. I highly recommend bypass this restaurant in favor of other Turkish or Asian restaurants.

I'll try different food, and they are all good - Jan 22, 2024
Loved this place, the food was good, beets salad and plov that I got were delicious and flavorful. I also stole a bite of chicken shashlik from my friend's plate and it was so juicy, tender and well seasoned. Our server was very attentive and did a great job on recommendations. I did like the interior, however it was chilly inside during the whole meal, and I was not fully enjoying my food with a constant cold. But if you are in the area - highly recommend to stop by!

First time having Uzbeki food, and it certainly won't be my last. Even from the exterior, Nargis is very charming. Enter and you'll find yourself in a cafe-like atrium with tons of natural sunlight and a beautiful bar/counter space. In the back is a full dining room as well. The staff here were so lovely and kind, and took the time to talk to us about the items on the menu and were constantly checking in.
Opted to sample some of the more traditional dishes which included chicken manti, baklava, as well as the meat samsa. Everything was delicious. The samsa had a nice flaky exterior and the meat was well seasoned. The manti came in the cutest little white pot with a lid and were so good on their own I didnt feel the need to dip them into sour cream or vinegar. Last but not least the baklava-- wasn't too sweet or drenched in syrup as it sometimes can be and was full to the brim with pistachios. Chefs kiss.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 59481307Dec 22, 2023Updated review
And here we are again. Just as good as I remember. The location has changed but the food quality hasn't. Place is now 2 stories brand new building and decor. Very cozy and excellent service as usual.

We have been going to the Nargis for quite some time and it hasn't disappointed us yet.
The menu is fairly simple and traditional for the Uzbek cuisine, Samsa, Lagman, various Kabobs but everything is so tasty and well prepared it's unbelievably tasty. I always take a test on the place trying to feed the kids... This place is one of the rare few where my son decides to try new things... And usually with no disappointment and always asking for seconds...
Prices are reasonable. The only thing that may disappoint is that the don't seem to take reservations so during busy times like Friday or Saturday nights the wait can be somewhat long. - Conan F.Woodmere, NY0486Apr 10, 2024
Wow. Been coming to this place since it opened. Guess they sold it because it was bad. Just not good. Tiny portions. Only decent item on the table was the Lula. What happened here? Even the small portions would have been acceptable if the food was at least good. Plov. I e cold and all fat. Just not good. Straighten out over there. Lots of other places to go. This surely isn't one of them any more. Sad. It was THE BEST in its time.
